TPACK/WRIGHT

In today's discussion we learned in two groups what TPACK stood for and how we can implement it in the classroom. In today's group will all found out that in today's classrooms teachers only cover two of the three. TPACK stands for Technological Pedagogical Content Knowledge. We came up with two examples for this scenario. One which how students that are doing alternative certification may know the technology and content but do not know the pedagogy part or how teachers that have been teaching for years may know pedagogy and the content but since technology is evolving they might not know as much about the products. Another reason would be the school may not have enough funding for technology.

In the Wright article that I read I learned that teacher educators can initiate change and address these barriers through implementation of technology integration requirements in teaching and learning. Teacher educators should also focus on improving the perseverance of teacher's attitudes toward technology's benefits in teaching and learning. It also showed how technology can expand a student's mind to be more creative and think quickly. Teacher's can also learn how to introduce it to the classroom at an early stage to make it easier and a better environment to learn.

We also discussed this picture which made it better to understand TPACK and shows that all teachers need to be balanced and have all three and only a very few teachers have this and that is a small percentage.

  1. If we do not address what we are doing wrong, then we will never change anything in our classes. If there is no change, then we are really not helping our students at all. I never knew what TPACK was or what it did for teachers. After our group discussion I had a much better idea of how it helps us and how we can implement it int he future.

  2. I like that you included a visual to go along with your post about the TPACK. It really shows what words can't always explain. It gives a very good picture that as educators we should always strive to be right there in the middle. I agree with you that the ball really bounces in our court. As future educators we all need to strive to be the best well rounded teachers we can be.

  3. I liked that you gave examples of why a teacher may not be proficient in all three areas of the TPACK. I also liked that you gave a visual aid, I think that really helped explain what TPACK is.

  4. There are teachers that fall into every category in the TPACK visual. In order for us to be the most well rounded teachers we can be, we must strive to adopt all 3 aspects of the TPACK framework. Integration of technology is incredibly important in the modern classroom.

  6. Your visual aid in your blog really shows what all we can do with technology and how many of us learn more visually rather than just reading- technology helps with that. Yes, teachers that have years teaching can be caught into a risky situation when it comes to technology but that doesn't mean they can't learn how technology works anymore or attend workshops. If we are genuine educators, over the years and understanding the different needs of our students, we will definitely find a way to be up to date with content, pedagogical knowledge and technology.

  8. I like how you also included a chart that explains what TPACK is. It is easy to understand new teaching methods when visuals are available. I think it is important for teachers to be open minded when it comes to teaching methods that can benefit their students.

  9. I like how you said teachers initiate change; I think that this is very true and teachers do need to be able to change, or adapt, to their students needs. I also like the visual aid in your reflection.

  10. Your post makes me think of Wiki use and teachers can use this tool to initiate change! Wikis, for example, are viewed ideal for fostering joined-knowledge construction and expression of diverse opinions through collaborative authorship, and blogs are considered participatory platform for conversations and self-expression. Such tools can also be portals for teachers where they can access various teaching resources, collaborate with other teachers, and share their practices virtually.
Regarding structural issues, students and teachers may be constrained by their lack of technology skills, limited technology access, and the emerging nature of technology in school settings. Although students are viewed digital natives, not all of them may be digitally enhanced, needing further assistance and technical support when they use technologies.
That's the major reason that education majors take a technology-integration class, such as technology and design, which “talks about how technology can support teaching and learning inside the classroom.

  11. I like that you included a visual in your blog, and agree with many of your points. I think that teacher's attitudes about technology is definitely an issue that affects their ability and desire to "stay on top" of the amazing technology available today. However, I do think that, with more education and professional development by the school districts or other outlets, hopefully those teachers with an "old school" mindset can learn the many benefits of incorporating technology in the classroom.
